Last updated: 20/11/2020

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children will be transferred to the Scottish Government in 2021. Applications will begin next summer as part of a pilot, ahead of a full roll-out across the country from autumn 2021.

The benefit will remain much the same but with two main changes:

  • children can remain on child disability payment until aged 18 rather than the previous age limit of 16 for DLA. This will hopefully help ease the move from child to adult services.
  • the maximum amount will be given for children and young people who are terminally ill whatever their life expectancy.

The exact date child disability payment will be available has not yet been confirmed, see mygov.scot for more information.

Child Winter Heating Assistance

Child Winter Heating Assistance is a new benefit from the Scottish Government. It’s a payment of £200 for children and young people up to the age of 18.

Families of disabled children should receive the new heating benefit  by Christmas.

Payments will arrive from Friday 27 November and these are expected to be complete by Friday 11 December.
