Scottish Child Payment

The new Scottish Child Payment was due to start in December 2020 for families with a child under six. As a result of coronavirus this has been delayed. The first applications are now expected to be taken at the end of this year, 2020, and the first payments made in 2021. The payment will roll out to all other eligible families with a child under 16 by the end of 2022.


The payment is £10 per week for each qualifying child. The payment will be made to the parent getting one of the benefits below:

  • Universal credit
  • Income support
  • Income-based jobseeker’s allowance
  • Income-related employment and support allowance
  • Pension credit
  • Housing benefit
  • Child tax credit
  • Working tax credit
