Applications open on 9th November 2020 for parents who have a child aged 6 or under on the 15th of February 2021.

Social Security Scotland will be taking applications ahead of its introduction on Monday 15 February 2021.

Please note the payment will not be backdated.

When the payment is in place it will stop when your child reaches 6 until the second role out for children aged 6- 16.

The new benefit, which will give eligible families on low incomes with children under 16 an extra £10 per week for each child, is planned to be fully rolled out to children under the age of 16 by the end of 2022.

Details

The payment is £10 per week for each qualifying child. The payment will be made to the parent getting one of the benefits below:

  • Universal credit
  • Income support
  • Income-based jobseeker’s allowance
  • Income-related employment and support allowance
  • Pension credit
  • Housing benefit
  • Child tax credit
  • Working tax credit
