Winter Support Fund for Children and Families
Last updated: 23/02/2021
The Scottish Government has provided Local Authorities additional funding for children who get Free School Meals (FSM). Families will receive a payment of £100 per child to help over the Christmas 2020 school holiday. A further additional payment will be made in February 2021 to cover the Spring break.
Only children eligible for Free school Meals (FSM) will be entitled to this payment.
All P1 to P4 pupils automatically receive a FSM whilst at school, however this payment will only be made if you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit and are therefore eligible for a FSM.
Payments for eligible children who are already known to us will be made automatically by bank transfer.
The qualifying benefits are:
- universal credit.
- child tax credit.
- working tax credit.
- income support.
- pension credit.
- income-based jobseeker’s allowance.
- income-related employment and support allowance.
P5 to S6 pupils who are currently in receipt of a qualifying benefit and receive a FSM will be entitled to this payment which will automatically be made by bank transfer. If you have received previous grants by cheque you must contact your local authority with your bank details.
If your child does not currently receive a FSM and you think you may be entitled, please contact your local council to apply www.mygov.scot/school-meals.
