Satwat Rehman, Chief Executive of OPFS said:
“The UK government has announced today the most shocking cuts to disability benefits on record. We know from our work that many single parents have a disability or are in poor health. These parents already struggle to afford the very basic needs of a decent life for their children. Poverty is not inevitable, but a result of political choice. Today’s announcements serve as a reminder that these choices are all too often made at expense of the most vulnerable in our society.
At One Parent Families Scotland we believe that everyone has the right to live with dignity, and the resources that they need to thrive. However, cuts to disability payments put these rights at risk; reducing quality of life for many who rely on them to help meet their daily needs.
“When our options are to tax wealth to mitigate budget deficits, or to demonise our disabled community – we choose the former.”
