Fundraise for OPFS

Last updated: 31/01/2024

Help OPFS to support single parents and their children in Scotland. With your fundraising efforts we could reduce the impact of poverty brought about by the cost of living crisis and ensure children are able to eat, play, learn and stay warm in their homes.

How to fundraise for OPFS

Kiltwalk

If you would like to join an organised fundraising event, you could join a Kiltwalk alongside thousands of other people raising funds over 3000 charities. Kiltwalk takes place in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen. Find out more about joining a Kiltwalk for OPFS.

Text giving

We can share codes so people can donate through text (SMS). Email us if you’d like a unique one for your fundraising.

Saying thank you

It may seem obvious but saying thanks to acknowledge donations no matter the size can make a big difference to your fundraiser.

Use pictures

Fundraisers with pictures on pages raise more donations, so it’d be great to get some pictures of you taking part / preparing for an event to share with your supporters.

Tell your story

Whether you are a single parent, raised by one or know single parents, tell your story in an authentic way. Your friends, family and other supporters will want to know why you’ve decided to seek donations for OPFS. Try to make it as personal as possible so it will resonate with donors.

See our existing single parent stories.

Setting a target

Did you know online fundraising pages with targets for donations raise over 40% more?

Sharing your fundraiser

Share your JustGiving / Facebook fundraising page where you can including your social media channels and WhatsApp to spread the word. Tag us in on your posts where you can!

Create a JustGiving fundraising page or Facebook fundraiser

You can create your own JustGiving fundraising page or Facebook fundraiser. See details on how to do this on Facebook.

It’s good to have some donations already on your page for when you start promoting it more publicly. People are also more likely to match donations made on the page already, so if you have some generous donations, it can help you reach your target.

Any questions? Have a fundraising idea? Tell us about your event and we can share your blog or video. Short videos, 2 minutes or less are more effective at engaging with your audience and resulting in more donations. Get in touch with us, email donations@opfs.org.uk.

Covering your tracks

You may not want other people to know that you’ve been searching for information or help from OPFS.

When browsing the internet whether on a mobile phone, tablet or computer, you leave a ‘history’ trail of pages and sites you’ve visited.

It’s impossible to completely avoid being tracked online but if you’re worried about someone knowing which sites you’ve been looking at, there are some things you can do to help cover your tracks.

If you’re using a laptop or desktop computer, try keeping another document or website open in a new tab or window while browsing. If someone comes in the room and you don’t want them to see what you’re looking at, you can quickly switch to another window or tab.

Deleting browsing history

You can delete the history of websites you’ve visited, but it’s important to know that if you delete your browsing history, someone else using the same device may notice.

If you share a tablet, mobile phone, laptop or computer with someone, they might notice that passwords or website addresses have disappeared from their history.

Find out how to remove your browsing history and other data from some of the most commonly used browsers:

Browsing in Private mode (incognito)

When browsing ‘incognito’, the internet browser won’t store cookies or record your browsing history on the computer, mobile or tablet.
