OPFS believes high quality, affordable, accessible and flexible childcare needs to be at the heart of early year’s policies to: reach the target to reduce child poverty; allow single parents to access both full-time and part-time employment; give children new opportunities and keep them safe; and enable employers to secure the skills, knowledge and creativity of lone parents.

The Scottish Government published a draft framework on out of school care for consultation. It sets out a vision for out of school care, considers the current picture, and asks questions about the benefits and challenges of accessing out of school care.

Scottish Government’s committed to improving and increasing ELC

OPFS welcomed the Scottish Government’s commitment to improving and increasing high quality, flexible early learning and childcare by delivering 30 hours a week for every three and four year old and eligible two year old by 2020.
