Child Disability Payment

Child Disability Payment is a new benefit from the Scottish Government. It has replaced Disability Living Allowance for children living in Scotland. It is given to help with the extra costs of caring for a child, or young person up to the age of 18, with a disability or long-term ill-heath condition.

If your child is getting Disability Living Allowance you do not need to do anything. You will receive a letter telling you when your child is going to be transferred and another when it is completed. You will receive the same amount of money and your child will not be reassessed. You can find out more about this benefit here.

Child Winter Heating Payment

The Child Winter Heating Payment used to be called Child Winter Heating Assistance.

This is a new benefit from the Scottish Government. It is given to help with the cost of heating the homes of severely disabled children.

Who can get it?

To get Child Winter Heating Payment your child must meet ALL of the following conditions on the whole of the third week in September:

  • be living in Scotland
  • be getting the highest rate care component of Disability Living Allowance, Child Disability Payment or the enhanced daily living rate of Personal Independence Payment
  • be under 19 years old

You do not need to apply for this benefit as it will be paid automatically if your child meets these conditions. It will be paid in November or December. You will get a letter telling you when it is paid.

How much is it?

Child Winter Heating Payment is £255.80 each year. It is paid for each child who qualifies so families could get more than one payment.

Covering your tracks

You may not want other people to know that you’ve been searching for information or help from OPFS.

When browsing the internet whether on a mobile phone, tablet or computer, you leave a ‘history’ trail of pages and sites you’ve visited.

It’s impossible to completely avoid being tracked online but if you’re worried about someone knowing which sites you’ve been looking at, there are some things you can do to help cover your tracks.

If you’re using a laptop or desktop computer, try keeping another document or website open in a new tab or window while browsing. If someone comes in the room and you don’t want them to see what you’re looking at, you can quickly switch to another window or tab.

Deleting browsing history

You can delete the history of websites you’ve visited, but it’s important to know that if you delete your browsing history, someone else using the same device may notice.

If you share a tablet, mobile phone, laptop or computer with someone, they might notice that passwords or website addresses have disappeared from their history.
