Benefits in Scotland

Benefits have changed in Scotland with a new social security agency to deliver some payments. Learn about the payments that you may be entitled from the Scottish Social Security System.


Scottish Child Payment

You could be entitled to the new Scottish Child Payment which will give eligible families £10 per week for each child under six to help with the costs of looking after your child.


Carer’s Allowance Supplement and Young Carer Grant

The Scottish Government is paying an extra amount of money to carers in Scotland called the Carer’s Allowance Supplement and Young Carer Grant.


Child Disability Payment and Child Winter Heating Assistance

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children will be transferred to the Scottish Government in 2021 and will be renamed the Child Disability Payment.


Best Start Scotland

The Scottish Government has now replaced the Sure Start Maternity grant with Best Start Pregnancy and Baby grant.


Scottish Welfare Fund

The Scottish Welfare Fund provides several grants and payments for people facing a crisis or needing essential household items. You may be able to get a community care grant or a budgeting loan to buy things you need for your home.


COVID Support Fund for Children and Families

The Scottish Government has provided Local Authorities additional funding for children who get Free School Meals (FSM). Families will receive a payment of £100 per child to help over the Christmas 2020 school holiday. A further additional payment will be made to cover the Spring break.
