It is morally unacceptable to allow those who are poorest to pay the price for the economic crisis - those with the broadest shoulders should be required to pay more.

- Marion Davis, Head of Policy

Responding to the Scottish Government’s announcement of £150 payments to deal with rising energy bills, OPFS Head of Policy, Marion Davis said:

“Further support for people struggling is certainly welcome, however we know this will not be enough for our poorest families. Rocketing energy bills, combined with the increase in National Insurance contributions and rising inflation, have created a “perfect storm” for poverty, debt and destitution. The very wealthy have already been able to recover financially from the pandemic and going forward we will see an economic recovery moving at two speeds for the wealthy and low income families. It is morally unacceptable to allow those who are poorest  to pay the price for the economic crisis – those with the broadest shoulders should be required to pay more.”
