One key proposal is to eliminate Direct Pay, and reduce the fees for Collect and Pay. Another proposal is to explore ways to assist parents in establishing their own private maintenance arrangements.

The government also aims to improve support for survivors of domestic abuse, which is particularly significant given the high percentage of parents using the CMS who have experienced such abuse.

This consultation is open to voluntary and community sector organisations, as well as Child Maintenance Service customers and members of the general public.

The consultation closes on 31st July 2024.
