Location: Glasgow city centre office base. Hybrid working arrangements can be discussed, with the expectation to spend a minimum of 75% of working week within office base. You will also be asked to travel, with notice, to other OPFS offices, community venues and external events.

The Advice and Information Service is a national support service for single-parent families and professionals across Scotland. It provides multi-channel advice on a wide range of topics, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity. The service operates Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, excluding Christmas and Easter holidays.

The Project Lead for Advice and Information Service will play a key role in supporting the A&I Service Manager with the day-to-day management, operations and delivery of the OPFS Advice and Information Service. They will help ensure the service is delivered effectively, supporting staff, maintaining high-quality service provision and contributing to the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the service.

Working within the OPFS “My Life and Me” framework, the postholder will provide operational leadership, support and supervision to staff, ensure high-quality service delivery and undertake quality assurance activities. The Project Lead will be expected to deputise for the A&I Service Manager when required.

The Advice & Information Service is part of OPFS Support for Families Services, which provides holistic support to single parents and their children.

Pre-employability and progression support, including confidence building, skills development, volunteering opportunities, training pathways and tailored support to overcome barriers to employment and learning.

Children

Family support and group programmes that promote positive outcomes for children, strengthen parenting capacity, support child development and provide opportunities for children to participate in activities that enhance wellbeing.

Relationships

One-to-one and group support that helps parents build positive relationships, strengthen family connections, develop peer support networks and reduce social isolation.

Key tasks and responsibilities

Operational Leadership and Service Delivery

  • Support the Advice & Information Services Manager in the day-to-day management of the A&I service.
  • Coordinate and oversee the delivery of advice and information to single parents, their families and practitioners.
  • Ensure services are delivered to a high standard and meet agreed outcomes, funding requirements and OPFS quality standards.
  • Support the planning and development of new programmes and initiatives in response to emerging local and national needs.
  • Monitor service activity, performance and outcomes, ensuring accurate recording and reporting systems are maintained.
  • Take responsibility for operational decision-making in the absence of the A&I Service Manager.

 

Staff Supervision and Support

  • Provide day-to-day supervision and support to Advice workers and any other relevant colleagues (i.e. volunteers, sessional staff and students).
  • Conduct regular support and supervision meetings as delegated by the A&I Service Manager.
  • Assist with staff induction, training, mentoring and ongoing professional development.
  • Promote reflective practice and a positive team culture.
  • Support staff wellbeing and encourage collaborative working across the service and wider organisation.

Quality Assurance and Performance

  • Support monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance activities.
  • Review case records and outcomes to ensure consistency and high standards of practice and undertake a range of quality assurance activities.
  • Assist in preparing reports for funders, senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Identify service gaps, trends and emerging needs and contribute to service improvements.
  • Ensure safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection procedures are consistently applied.

Partnership Working and Community Engagement

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with a wide range of partners including TSI, community organisations, health services and statutory agencies.
  • Represent OPFS at local operational meetings and networks as delegated.
  • Support referral pathways and promote access to services for single parent families.
  • Assist with community engagement activities and service promotion.

Support and Casework Oversight

  • Provide guidance and support to staff working with families experiencing complex issues.
  • Contribute to service delivery by providing advice to parents, families and practitioners through our multi-digital platforms.
  • Support staff to deliver strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Ensure families can access the full range of OPFS services and external support available.

Service Development

  • Contribute to service planning and development activities.
  • Support consultation, participation and co-production activities involving parents.
  • Assist with funding reports, service reviews and development opportunities.
  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement across the service.

Premises, Health & Safety and Safeguarding

  • Support the A&I Service Manager in maintaining safe and welcoming service environments.
  • Ensure risk assessments, health and safety procedures, fire safety and safeguarding responsibilities are implemented.
  • Assist with premises management and business continuity arrangements as required.

Organisational Contribution

  • Promote OPFS values of Justice, Equity, Trust, Collaboration and Compassion.
  • Contribute to wider organisational developments and projects.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.

Experience

  • Experience of supporting individuals by providing advice, guidance and information in an advice setting (i.e. helpline, CAB, community settings).
  • Experience of supervising, mentoring, coordinating or supporting staff.
  • Experience of partnership working and multi-agency collaboration.
  • Experience of monitoring outcomes and maintaining accurate records.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of the challenges faced by single parent families.
  • Knowledge of strengths-based, trauma-informed and person-centred approaches.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
  • Awareness of issues relating to poverty, inequality, family wellbeing and social inclusion

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and support staff and other relevant colleagues.
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines and work independently.
  • Competent IT skills including full Microsoft Office and case management systems.
  • Ability to analyse information and contribute to service improvement.
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Desirable

  • Relevant qualification in Social Care, Community Development, Health & Social Care, Youth Work, Management or related field.
  • Experience of line management.
  • Experience of working within the third sector.
  • Knowledge of relevant advice networks and advice standards applicable to Scotland.

Terms and conditions

  • Confirmation of Appointment: Confirmation of appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a 3-month probationary period, two references and a PVG check.
  • Salary: Grade Point 19 – 23
  • Hours of work: 28 hours
  • Holidays: Annual leave entitlement is 25 days and 12 Public holidays (pro rata)
  • Pension: You will be auto enrolled in our pension scheme with a 3% contribution from you and 7% contribution from OPFS
  • Training and support and supervision: You will receive induction training and frequent support in the first three months. Thereafter you will receive monthly individual support and supervision and annual appraisals. Regular team meetings will be held, and staff have access to internal and external training.
