Guidelines

Use of the OPFS WhatsApp groups is open to all people aged 16 or above provided they agree to follow these guidelines.

  • Messages posted on the WhatsApp groups should be supportive and respectful of all other group users.
  • Expressing strong feelings is okay but try to keep your language moderate. Please do not to swear.
  • Respect the confidentiality of anything posted on the group and avoid mentioning names and other details in your own posts. Don’t name professionals – solicitors, sheriffs, child welfare reporters etc.
  • Our WhatsApp groups will be a safe place to communicate, and as such all comments or language which are racist, homophobic, sexist, sectarian, personally abusive or dismissive about people’s experiences are not acceptable.
  • Remember that the other people in the group want to hear about successes as well as problems.
  • If you have concerns about any message posted on a WhatsApp group speak with your OPFS Family Support Worker who will try and resolve the matter.  If an OPFS staff member considers a message inappropriate they will contact the person who posted it and seek removal of the message if necessary.
  • All parents must be aware that their number will be visible to other members of the group should they wish to join an OPFS WhatsApp group. OPFS has no control over this.

Covering your tracks

You may not want other people to know that you’ve been searching for information or help from OPFS.

When browsing the internet whether on a mobile phone, tablet or computer, you leave a ‘history’ trail of pages and sites you’ve visited.

It’s impossible to completely avoid being tracked online but if you’re worried about someone knowing which sites you’ve been looking at, there are some things you can do to help cover your tracks.

If you’re using a laptop or desktop computer, try keeping another document or website open in a new tab or window while browsing. If someone comes in the room and you don’t want them to see what you’re looking at, you can quickly switch to another window or tab.

Deleting browsing history

You can delete the history of websites you’ve visited, but it’s important to know that if you delete your browsing history, someone else using the same device may notice.

If you share a tablet, mobile phone, laptop or computer with someone, they might notice that passwords or website addresses have disappeared from their history.

Browsing in Private mode (incognito)

When browsing ‘incognito’, the internet browser won’t store cookies or record your browsing history on the computer, mobile or tablet.
