Annual Report & accounts for 2021/22
One Parent Families Scotland works to enable single parent families achieve their potential, to reach a decent standard of living and contribute to Scottish society.
Our thanks go to many incredible single parents across Scotland, our co-producers and experts, who continually inspire us, as they face daily challenges, putting the needs of their children first. Thank you for trusting OPFS to be able to give single parents a voice.

The pandemic intensified already difficult circumstances for single parents and their families. It challenged us to re-evaluate and adapt approaches to service delivery. Many of the challenges arose from parents navigating sole caring responsibilities during the pandemic. Parents continued to experience difficulties balancing childcare and working from home and were very concerned that their children had fallen behind academically.
Although the restrictions came to an end in summer 2021, soon after some of the financial measures that had proved vital to families during the restrictions were withdrawn. This combined with the deepening cost of living crisis, resulted in an upsurge in our crisis support work with families.
We responded to the dramatic increase in parents needing crisis support, particularly financial problems, through internal grants, OPFS welfare rights and financial inclusion work, and signposting to partners.
