This month, our advice team have been receiving a lot of calls from single parents regarding the Scottish Child Payment and questions about Social Security Scotland who are administering this.

I applied for the Scottish Child Payment in November, and I still haven’t received any money, do you know when I will get it?

Social Security Scotland who administer the Scottish Child Payment have said that some claims are taking longer than others and they are working through them as quickly as they can. Social Security Scotland have said they are aiming to ensure that most people who applied before Christmas will see their application processed before the end of February and they will keep clients updated on progress.

My son has now turned 6 on the 30th of January 2023, do I need to reapply for the Scottish Child Payment?

Claimants with children that turned 6 after the 14th of November 2022 would not need to reapply for the Scottish Child Payment, the payments would continue. If your child turned 6 before the 14th of November 2022 then you would have to reapply.

I applied for the Scottish Child Payment on the 12th of December 2022 and it says it will be paid every 4 weeks, why have I not been paid my first payment it’s been longer than 4 weeks?

Social Security Scotland received a high volume of applications for Scottish Child Payment when it extended to under-16-year-olds and they are working hard to process applications as quickly as possible, they If clients are eligible, payments will be calculated from the day of application, payments are made in arrears. Depending on what payment cycle a client falls into, they may get a part payment initially before starting to receive £100 per eligible child every four weeks.

My friend applied after me and she got hers in December, I’ve been counting on that money? I can’t get through on the phone lines or the chat tried all day on the 1st of February.

Social Security Scotland have said due to industrial action that took place on Wednesday 1 February, their phonelines and webchat were unavailable on that day.

Services resumed as normal on Thursday 2 February.

They are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I can’t get through to the Scottish Child Payment phone number, do you have a direct number, or can you get in touch with them and get them to call me back?

Unfortunately we don’t have any different contact details for Social Security Scotland and would be unable to contact them.

I receive Child Disability Payment so will I receive the Scottish Child Payment automatically or do I have to apply?
